Death of Pierre Condom
Our comrade Pierre Condom left us on June 14, he was only 79 years old. His career was full and he remains for me among the examples of quality and probity in the profession of journalist. We met in the course of the 1970s, when I was a reporter for Europe 1, I had expanded my portfolio of activities, as was the tradition in this large and beautiful house, to aeronautics and a little space, after having always worked in secondary activity, on the medical sector with Doctor Europe, Pierre Herman, a friend who became very close until his death. Aerospace has therefore come to complement the policy, the news, etc. And as always, we learn “on the job” thanks to the confreres who inform you and train you, even if, young pilot of planes, then helicopters, later became professional, I had some dispositions. For space, the great Albert Ducroc was our model, and our master. Thus, from paris salons to press conferences I met the Pierre among the greats of the profession specialized in the air sector. Alongside Jean Marie Riche, Jacques Morisset, Jean Eyquem, Raymond Siretta, Gilbert Setbon or Albert Boccara, and I will stop there, because there was then a hearty press in this sector, with many professionals, more or less specialized technical, industry, economics, and among them, this versatile professional Pierre Condom. He had done classical studies and his passages through Switzerland and the United Kingdom had given this journalist a perspective, a wisdom that multiplied his relevance and the value of his writings. Having become boss of Aviation Magazine, then of Interavia, Air and Cosmos, he has always shown the most scrupulous rigor, independence and competence. And authority as a boss. Retired, he remained a wise man who was consulted, both in the press and in industry. Courteous without being pusillanimous, readable in his friendships, clear in his criticisms. He was one of my favorite colleagues and never the slightest shadow disturbed our relations. We even, according to his wish, almost worked together a long time ago, but radio remained my medium. Good flight companion of the Academy, you have earned your stripes as an aviator.
