François Mignard receives the CNES-Astrophysics and Space Sciences 2019 award

Tuesday, October 15, 2019, under the dome of the Institut de France, the Academy of Sciences awarded the CNES-Astrophysics and Space Sciences 2019 prize to François MIGNARD, astronomer at the Côte d’Azur Observatory, director of research emeritus at the CNRS, member Office of Longitudes and correspondent of the Air and Space Academy.

This award is given to him, on the one hand, for his incomparable work in terms of celestial and analytical mechanics dedicated to the body of the solar system. On the other hand, for its ability to perform with dexterity the preparation and operation of the two considerable space missions of astrometry, HIPPARCOS and GAIA. The latter was the theme of the conference he presented at our solemn 2019 session on: “The Gaia satellite explores the Milky Way”.

The members of the Air and Space Academy warmly congratulate their colleague, François MIGNARD, correspondent of the Academy, for this well-deserved award.
