It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Jacques Durand, honorary member of the Academy, on November 10, 2022.
Jacques Durand was a Civil Engineer of Aeronautics and Master of Aeronautical Sciences. He was SNESCMA/ELECMA system engineer from 1964 to 1968, then aerosat satellite system manager at Matra from 1969 to 1974. He then held the position of Head of the European Communication Satellite Programme at ESTEC from 1975 to 1989 and ended his career as Head of Ariane Development Programme at ESA from 1989 to 2004.
He was elected AAE correspondent in 2001, fellow in 2006 and became emeritus member in 2014. He was an active member of Section II and the Space Commission. He was also very involved in the organisation of the afternoon conferences organised by the Academy at the Palais de la Découverte in Paris. A tribute will be paid to him at the next private session, on Friday 9 December.
His funeral will take place on Tuesday, November 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mont Valérien crematorium.
