Section IV – Ethics, law, sociology, economics of air and space

Section IV is currently working on the draft European regulation concerning accident investigations.

It also examines the issue of space operators’ liability, particularly in relation to navigation services.

Events are regularly organized at the initiative of and with the active participation of Section 4.

This is particularly true of the “Air Traffic and Weather” conference (November 9 & 10, 2010, in Toulouse), as well as the “Airports Facing Their Challenges” conference (October 7 & 8, 2009, at the DGAC).

Previously, Section IV examined the growth of low-cost airlines, the challenges posed by air travel for people with disabilities, developments in criminal liability in the event of an aircraft accident, and the legal framework governing the International Space Station; it also discussed the possibility of developing a rating system for airlines.

Section IV contributes to the activities of the other sections and committees. As such, it regularly monitors work related to aviation safety.

Section IV is responsible for evaluating nominations for the “Law and Economics of Air and Space Transportation” Award.
