Section IV – Ethics, law, sociology, economics of air and space

Work underway in section IV focuses on the draft European regulation on accident investigations.

The section is also examining the issue of the responsibility of space operators, particularly in relation to navigation services.

Events are regularly organised at the initiative and with the active participation of Section 4.

This is the case in particular of the conference on “Air Traffic and Weather” (9 & 10 November 2010 in Toulouse), as well as that on “Airports facing their challenges” (7 & 8 October 2009 at the DGAC).

Previously, section IV had examined the development of low-cost air carriers, the difficulties of air transport for persons with disabilities, the evolution of criminal liability in the event of an aviation accident, as well as the regime of the International Space Station. It also discussed the possibility of developing a rating system for airline companies.

Section IV contributes to the activities of the other sections and commissions. It regularly keeps abreast of the work related to aviation safety.

Section IV is responsible for assessing applications for the “Law, economics and sociology of air and space transport” Thesis prize.
