The impact of COVID on aviation was abysmal. Air traffic was at an all-time low. By 2024, air traffic and flight delays had reached pre-pandemic levels, prompting numerous complaints from airlines. Why is air traffic control unable to overcome bottlenecks, despite 20 years of Single European Sky reform? What reforms could help improve the overall performance of Europe’s air traffic management system?
