Technological advancements are radically transforming the cockpit. To better understand the real-world needs of pilots, the Air and Space Academy (AAE) is launching a major national and international survey today targeting active airline pilots.
The goal? To identify areas where new technical developments and decision-making aids could enhance flight safety while maintaining the current crew configuration.

As the aviation industry explores increasingly automated solutions, the day-to-day experience of flight crew remains an indispensable guide for innovation. The results of this questionnaire will be the subject of a summary published in the form of an AAE Document, which will be accessible, in French and English, to operators, manufacturers, and authorities.

The questionnaire begins with an open-ended question that gives you complete freedom to describe what you consider to be the innovation that should be implemented in priority. - Airport operations: Use of moving maps on EFBs, display of taxi clearances via data link, and runway incursion prevention systems (ROAAS, ADS-B IN).
- Collision prevention: TCAS automation and advanced ADS-B functions for sequencing.
- Terrain awareness and collision avoidance (CFIT): Evolution of TAWS toward 3D avoidance and automation of QNH validation.
- Weather and turbulence: AI-driven radar analysis and protocols for automatic transmission of real-time turbulence data.
- Failure management: Widespread adoption of automatic emergency descent and AI-assisted support for complex checklists.
- Communications: Modernization of NOTAMs/SIGMETs and text-based interface between the cockpit and cabin.
How can I participate?
The form is designed to be flexible: starting with Section 3, responses are optional, allowing you to focus on the topics that interest you most. Your responses are anonymized, and the form does not automatically collect your personal data.
