Pursuing its reflections into the future of air transport within a 2050 timeline, the Air and Space Academy (AAE) commissioned a study into the progress of automation in this sector in order to answer two key questions: How to pursue the harmonious development of automation within a 2050 timeline, whilst respecting the twin goals of safety and economy? What conditions must be met in the long term for a modification in crew composition whilst maintaining the safety level?

The Air and Space Academy trusts that this work will assist decision makers in determining the steps that must be taken, using the possibilities offered by automation, to pave the way for a safer, more efficient global air transport system.
