Ensuring the security of European assets in space is a significant issue today and requires technical capability and know-how in the fields of Space surveillance and tracking, Space situation awareness, and Intelligence.

To achieve an acceptable level of autonomy, Europe must drastically improve and enhance existing national assets in European nations, and also extend them far beyond the capabilities available today. Full capability in all orbits should be a goal for Europe in the long term. However, short-term decisions should be taken urgently.

AAE’s Opinion n°14 makes several recommendations to ensure that Europe is more proactive in this field and to reinforce its capability.
