Dossier No.38 – Flying in 2050

Air transport plays a major social and economic role in Europe. Aviation contributes significantly to the balance of payments, facilitates mobility of people and goods and supports high-level training in research, development and production, with benefits in many other sectors. Several major initiatives are underway to harmonise its development on a continental scale.
Aware of these challenges facing air transport, AAE launched an in-depth study in 2009 to identify problem areas within a 2050 perspective and deliver recommendations aimed at forestalling them.
This dossier gives the results of this work, enriched by vital exchanges at an international conference held in Toulouse in May 2012. It contains important recommendations for the attention of policymakers in the different sectors making up air transport, both institutional and operational.
