Dossier No.36 – What future for European aeronautics and space industries?

In an increasingly global environment, Europe is struggling to sustain its growth and is losing ground in many fields. Aeronautics and space however are exceptions, representing activities in which Europe still ranks as a world leader. It is important not to take this situation for granted though and, faced with heightening global competition, a coordinated industrial policy must be implemented capable of supporting the future of European aerospace and the Europeans who make it possible. It seemed important for the Air and Space Academy to contribute to recent reflections on the part of the European commission in this area by analysing prospects for the sector and elaborating recommendations, for the attention of the relevant policymakers, designed to support its development.
