Lecture presented by Pierre-Yves Meslin, planetologist at the Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie, scientific leader of the DORN experiment.
DORN was the first active French instrument to be deployed on the Moon’s surface, in June 2024, aboard the Chinese probe Chang’E 6. Its aim was to measure the concentration of radon released by lunar regolith and to study the origin and dynamics of the lunar exosphere. Following a presentation of the scientific objectives and design of this experiment, we will look back at the various stages that marked the development of this project, the fruit of a first collaboration between France and China in the field of space exploration.
