We now live in a digital and virtual world in which we seek ever closer proximity to reality. Artificial intelligence (AI) has invaded our lives, and the relationship between humans and AI should be further explored from the point of view of human-systems integration, and more particularly when we use models to assess their representativeness of the real both physically and in terms of understanding the laws that govern their interactions.

We’re talking more and more about autonomous machines. How can technologies help solve problems in unexpected situations? The concept of autonomy requires further examination, particularly with regard to questions of overall situational understanding, decision-making and risk-taking. The integration of human beings into systems with increasing autonomy raises new issues such as trust, collaboration and multi-agent performance. We address these issues.

To what extent should the machine be considered a tool or a partner? Examples will be taken from aeronautics and other industrial sectors.
