Ariane 5 had bowed out a year earlier\, at the end of a 27-year career studded with successes\, emblematic missions and trials that were sometimes difficult to overcome. Ariane’s thread has never been broken since the 1970s\, despite the technical\, political and economic pitfalls. \nWhat were the major milestones in this European epic? The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has set a target of “net zero” CO2 emissions by 2050. The European Union also recently set a target of climate neutrality by replacing kerosene with sustainable\, CO2-neutral fuels by 2050. The entire industry has become aware of the role it must play in meeting the climate challenge\, with the aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. The use of sustainable fuels and carbon capture and storage are some of the measures to reach that goal.
