SUMMARY:Mega Constellations
DESCRIPTION:Satellites illuminated by the sun are visible in the night sky – even with the naked eye for the brightest – and are a source of light pollution for astronomers. Their number could reach several tens of thousands in a few years. What are the consequences for large observatories\, but also for small telescopes and for lovers of the starry sky? \n“Mega constellations\, their applications”\, presented by Bernard FOING\, Director EuroMoonMars\, prof Leiden/Amsterdam/EPFL \n“Theirimpact on astronomy”\, presented by Olivier HAINAUT\, astronomer at ESO\, Munichaux \nThe double conference will be broadcast live on the Youtube channel of the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie. \n\nIn partnership with:

SUMMARY:The space propulsion of the future
DESCRIPTION:By Alberto Rossi\, Head of Propulsion\, Pyrotechnics and Aerothermodynamics\, CNES. \nSpace propulsion systems have a big influence on our ability to travel to other planets or how a satellite can provide cheap telecommunications services. This conference aims to provide an up-to-date overview of all kinds of propulsion systems ranging from conventional (Chemical) technology\, from nuclear propulsion to electric propulsion systems\, to solar and even revolutionary sail propulsion. The limitations of current concepts will be shown with a glimpse of what they might look like in the future. From historical developments\, the listener will be taken on a journey showing all kinds of amazing technology. CNES is actively involved in advanced propulsion research and contributes with its know-how and experience to many of the topics presented. The conference is designed for anyone interested in how to travel in space. \nImage credit: © PPS-FLEX thruster -CNES-CNRS-SAFRAN \n\nFree admission (without registration). Attention\, the health pass will be requested at the entrance of the media library. \nThe conference will be accessible remotely.
