SUMMARY:Giant telescopes and Adaptive Optics: a revolution in space observation
DESCRIPTION:By Thierry Fusco\, Research Director\, Scientific Assistant\, Optics Department\, ONERA \nAdaptive optics has revolutionized high-resolution imaging by compensating in real time for the adverse effects of atmospheric turbulence. Now a key component of giant telescopes\, this multi-disciplinary technology enables us to explore the universe with unprecedented image quality\, monitor our immediate surroundings and focus laser beams at very great distances. Using a number of recent examples\, and looking to the future with the PROVIDENCE project as an example\, this conference will review the major scientific and technical advances and future challenges of adaptive optics. \n\nFree admission in the limit of available seats. \nIn partnership with: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n[image] ©Providence ©Onera – M.Cherfi – 2024 – MR

SUMMARY:En route to sustainable aviation: from climate science to mitigation policies
DESCRIPTION:Faced with the climate emergency\, commercial aviation is at a crossroads: it must achieve its decarbonisation goal by 2050 while also reducing the impact of its ‘non-CO2‘ effects(including contrails\, aerosols and nitrogen oxides)\, seen as substantial despite some uncertainties. \nThis international conference\, co-organised by Météo & Climat and the Air and Space Academy\, in partnership with Météo France\, will offer a unique overview on the question of mitigating the climate impacts of aviation\, including current scientific knowledge\, traffic growth scenarios and mitigation strategies based on scientific\, industrial and operational innovations. \n\n\nWhy take part?\n\n\n\n\nThe conference will provide a platform for dialogue and multidisciplinary exchange between all stakeholders (researchers\, economists\, industry representatives\, European agencies and R&D partnerships\, operators and public decision-makers) with the aim of defining components on an ambitious mitigation pathway. Presentations\, posters and high-level discussions will enable participants to confront scientific knowledge of impacts with possible mitigation strategies at an industrial and operational level\, and to measure the importance of cooperation between the scientific community\, the industrial and operational ecosystem and public authorities.

SUMMARY:1945-1960: the renaissance of French military aviation
DESCRIPTION:By Jean-Marc Olivier\, professor of contemporary history\, co-founder and co-director of the magazine “Nacelles. Passé et présent de l’aéronautique et du spatial”\, AAE correspondent. \nBy 1945\, the French Air Force had virtually ceased to exist independently. The only national aircraft it could mobilize was the Dewoitine D.520\, which had been completely overtaken by the first jet aircraft. However\, France managed to catch up within fifteen years\, thanks to the skills of its personnel\, massive state investment and the help of its Western allies. In 1952\, Dassault’s Mystère IV fighter made its maiden flight\, and over 400 were produced. Then\, in 1960\, France detonated its own atomic bomb\, using aircraft as the main delivery system\, in particular the Dassault Mirage IV\, which entered service in 1964. \n\nFree admission in the limit of available seats. \nIn partnership with: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n[image] ©”Dassault Mystère IV A commissioned in 1955″ ©Cliché by Jean-Marc Olivier\, August 16\, 2017\, Musée de l’aéronautique du Château de Savigny-lès-Baune
