SUMMARY:European satellites for weather forecasting
DESCRIPTION:By Alain Ratier\, AAE member\, former Director General of EUMETSAT \nThe European meteorological ecosystem and the contribution of the MSG and EPS/Metop systems to forecasting will be presented\, together with the observation capabilities of the new-generation MTG and EPS/Metop-SG systems currently being deployed\, and the first examples of their contribution to different types of forecasting. The expected contributions of the three new programs proposed by EUMETSAT (a Sterna constellation of six microwave sounding microsatellites\, an operational Lidar Doppler mission and a contribution to the Sentinel 3 NG Topo swath altimetry mission) will also be discussed\, based on impact studies carried out in 2024. \n\nFree admission in the limit of available seats. \nIn partnership with: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[image] ©EUMETSAT -ASpot_EPS-SGi

SUMMARY:AI for Experts: From Tool to Trust
DESCRIPTION:Welcome aboard “Vol AAE 8.30\,” the Academy’s new quarterly digital event(In french – AI subtitles available). This short\, intensive\, and fully online 90-minute session is designed to break down major technological issues with a pair of experts—without disrupting your schedule. \n\nArtificial Intelligence is no longer a distant promise: it is already integrated into our tools and is transforming the way we work. But how can we make AI a true driver of performance without compromising reliability or control? \nThis first technical session explores the key elements of trustworthy AI that can support and enhance human expertise rather than replace it. \n \nYour Flight Captains \nTo explore this complex topic\, we have brought together two leading experts who will share their perspectives: \nGuillaume Saës (PhD\, Lead Data Scientist at Givaudan) will review the technological fundamentals and discuss the crucial concept of trustworthy AI. His presentation will demonstrate how algorithms can support domain-specific expertise by ensuring the transparency and relevance of results. \nSamuel Hibon (Director of Energy Efficiency at Alstom)\, drawing on his industrial experience\, will expand on this vision by highlighting the practical benefits of AI for technical experts in the field. How does AI become a reliable decision-making tool in demanding environments? \n\nRegister here \n

SUMMARY:Managing the impact of weather on air and space launch operations
DESCRIPTION:ByJacques Verrière\, former Captain\, Air France Flight Instructor\, Member of the AAE \nWeather conditions have a considerable influence on flight operations and space launches. This presentation will show how\, even in 2025\, weather conditions are a major safety and cost factor for air transport and space launches. \nSecondly\, it will explore the innovations already in place\, as presented at the Academy’s conference in Brussels last November. \n\nFree admission in the limit of available seats. \nIn partnership with: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n[image] ©AAE/AI generated

SUMMARY:What's the latest on life on Mars?
DESCRIPTION:By Sylvestre Maurice\, astrophysicist-planetologist\, director of IRAP\, AAE correspondent \nWe live in extraordinary times: some twenty robotic vehicles have explored Mars since the year 2000. A trophy of national supremacy\, a field of technological experimentation for industrialists\, a source of wonder for the people who follow the robot adventure with astonishing fervor\, the Red Planet represents the greatest quest for scientists\, who are methodically investigating whether Martians exist. They are preparing for the next stage: the collection of samples to be brought back to Earth\, the grail of planetary scientists. How far have we got? \n\nFree admission in the limit of available seats. \nIn partnership with: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n[image] ©D.R. Curiosity-marker-band-valley

SUMMARY:Giant telescopes and Adaptive Optics: a revolution in space observation
DESCRIPTION:By Thierry Fusco\, Research Director\, Scientific Assistant\, Optics Department\, ONERA \nAdaptive optics has revolutionized high-resolution imaging by compensating in real time for the adverse effects of atmospheric turbulence. Now a key component of giant telescopes\, this multi-disciplinary technology enables us to explore the universe with unprecedented image quality\, monitor our immediate surroundings and focus laser beams at very great distances. Using a number of recent examples\, and looking to the future with the PROVIDENCE project as an example\, this conference will review the major scientific and technical advances and future challenges of adaptive optics. \n\nFree admission in the limit of available seats. \nIn partnership with: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n[image] ©Providence ©Onera – M.Cherfi – 2024 – MR

SUMMARY:1945-1960: the renaissance of French military aviation
DESCRIPTION:By Jean-Marc Olivier\, professor of contemporary history\, co-founder and co-director of the magazine “Nacelles. Passé et présent de l’aéronautique et du spatial”\, AAE correspondent. \nBy 1945\, the French Air Force had virtually ceased to exist independently. The only national aircraft it could mobilize was the Dewoitine D.520\, which had been completely overtaken by the first jet aircraft. However\, France managed to catch up within fifteen years\, thanks to the skills of its personnel\, massive state investment and the help of its Western allies. In 1952\, Dassault’s Mystère IV fighter made its maiden flight\, and over 400 were produced. Then\, in 1960\, France detonated its own atomic bomb\, using aircraft as the main delivery system\, in particular the Dassault Mirage IV\, which entered service in 1964. \n\nFree admission in the limit of available seats. \nIn partnership with: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n[image] ©”Dassault Mystère IV A commissioned in 1955″ ©Cliché by Jean-Marc Olivier\, August 16\, 2017\, Musée de l’aéronautique du Château de Savigny-lès-Baune
