SUMMARY:The Chinese aeronautical industry: its way towards a global position
DESCRIPTION:By Jean-Paul Perrais\, Former deputy CEO Aérospatiale Aircraft\, Member of AAE \nChina has during few decades reached very high level in many industrial activities and put them at the head of global completion\, like cars\, merchant ships\, electronic devices\, etc.. But to-day the aeronautical industry is not yet in the list of success stories\, in spite of a more than fifty years long existence. The Chinese government has taken into account the fact and had built a strong policy to respond to the needs of the air transport and its ambitions of high military power. he lecture to be given by Jean-Paul Perrais will give a short history of the Chinese aeronautical industry\, including the evolutions of its organization decided by the government. The to-day situation of the research related to aeronautics is analyzed. The main programs for commercial airplanes\, military airplanes (combat\, transport\, maritime\, training)\, helicopters and UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles) will be described. he recent efforts to improve the level of design and production of engines and equipments will be noticed. A tentative of synthetic remarks will be made\, with fears and opportunities to Europe suggested. \nJean-Paul Perrais\, former deputy head of Aerospatiale (now part of airbus) aircraft division has been in charge of relations with the Chinese industry since 1983: subcontracts negotiations\, preliminary common studies to possible co-operation on commercial airplanes programs. Since his retirement he maintains a watchful observation of the Chinese aeronautical industry

SUMMARY:The role of Universities in Defining our Future
DESCRIPTION:By Prof. Iain Gray\, CBE FREng FRSE FRAes\, Director of Aerospace\, Cranfield University \nIt is said that we are on the cusp of a new technology revolution in aerospace with exciting developments happening in electrification\, artificial intelligence autonomy and new materials. There is no doubt that the role that research across our universities has played is a key to this new opportunity. The lecture explores just what this role for our universities is and how it differs across Europe. It examines just what the interface between business and universities is and identifies potential solutions to make this relationship more effective. The lecture discusses progress against these disruptive technology objectives and asks the question ‘what the future will look like’ and ‘how can universities working with business make this technology revolution become a commercial success?

SUMMARY:Terrorism and aviation security: responses by the international community
DESCRIPTION:By Bernard PESTEL\, aeronautical consultant at Aeroexpert\, former director of IFURTA (Institute for University Training and Air Transport Research)\, member of the Academy. \nTerrorism is not a totally new form of political violence\, but a very old and universal one. Some authors make it appear from the 1st century. \nToday\, the plane is unfortunately a prime target of terrorists\, as fragile and an indisputable symbol of nations (sovereignty) and the modern world. Highly publicized it is a powerful lever to generate a fear. \nThe international community is constantly responding to these attacks. It must today strive to get ahead of them.

SUMMARY:Hypersonic Flight: Challenges\, Opportunities and Implications\, an Overview
DESCRIPTION:By General Giuseppe CORNACCHIA\, Hypersonic Flight coordinator\, Associazione Arma Aeronautica Sezione Roma Due “L.Broglio” \nFrom myth to vision and technological breakthrough\, the history of flight has transitioned from “heavier than air” powered aircraft (Wilbur and Orville Wright\, 1903) to faster than sound (Charles “Chuck” Yeager\, 1947) in a relatively short time in the first half on last century. But the quest for “faster” hypersonic flight has never relented although at a slower pace. Even planning for further exploration of the universe\, the ambition to reduce distances on our globe remains. Confidence is building on the ability to overcome current limitations to achieve a sustained trans-atmospheric hypersonic flight\, both for reducing antipodal flight time on earth as well as space activity costs. A new impulse is being given by technological advancement in materiel and propulsion systems with larger private involvement in parallel with the leading activity of the defense industry.

SUMMARY:Space debris: sustainability of operations
DESCRIPTION:by Christophe Bonnal\, Senior expert\, launchers Directorate at CNES\, chairman of the Commission debris of the IAA\, correspondent of the EFA \nThe massive development of space applications that we are witnessing is confronted by a number of constraints\, among which the pollution of space appears to be one of the most significant. The unbridled use of space since 1957 has spawned a population of significant orbital debris on the most widely used orbits. We will describe the current situation\, the means used to characterize this threat\, and then the dreaded events\, uncontrolled fallout on earth and collisions in orbit. The proposed\, regulatory and technical solutions will be addressed\, ranging from non-proliferation rules to future solutions for space cleaning.
