Recording of the lecture by Thierry Fusco, Research Director and Deputy Scientific Director of the Optics Department at ONERA, held on October 27, 2026, in Toulouse.
Adaptive optics has revolutionized high-resolution imaging by compensating in real time for the adverse effects of atmospheric turbulence. Now a key component of giant telescopes, this multi-disciplinary technology enables us to explore the universe with unprecedented image quality, monitor our immediate surroundings and focus laser beams at very great distances. Using a number of recent examples, and looking to the future with the PROVIDENCE project as an example, this conference will review the major scientific and technical advances and future challenges of adaptive optics.
