Concorde, a historic monument

In June 2023, the Academy submitted a study project to protect this legendary aircraft to the DRAC (Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles).

On June 11, 2024, the project was presented to the Commission régionale du patrimoine et de l’architecture (regional heritage and architecture commission), with the assistance of Philippe Borentin, Concorde historian and member of the Académie de l’Air et de l’Espace, section V.

Concorde No. 1, a unique aircraft preserved in Toulouse

In 1985, Aerospatiale handed over the aircraft to the Academy, before transferring ownership on March 1, 1987.

Concorde No. 1 (WTSB), now a listed building, is one of the first two production aircraft. It differs from the two prototypes and the two pre-production models in that its characteristics are those of a production passenger aircraft.

The protection of this legendary aircraft, on display at the Aeroscopia museum, is exceptional, as it is the first Concorde to be listed as a Monument Historique in France.
