At the close of last October’s Annual General Meeting, Academy members unanimously elected Bruno Stoufflet President of the AAE. The Academy’s eighteenth president, he officially took office on January 1, 2025, for a two-year term.
He succeeds Michel Wachenheim, former French ambassador to the ICAO and Director General of Civil Aviation. During his two terms as President, Michel Wachenheim left his mark on the Académie through his exemplary dedication, enhancing its visibility and promoting its work on a European scale. His commitment was unanimously praised by the members of the Académie and his successor.
At the formal sitting on December 6, Bruno Stoufflet expressed his gratitude in the following terms:
“I am honored by the confidence placed in me by my colleagues in electing me President of our Academy. I pledge to mobilize all my energy to serve our collective priorities, because the Academy must propose original and independent thinking in the face of the major challenges facing Europe’s aeronautics and space players. These challenges include: the development of sustainable air transport in line with commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; the design of combat air systems that meet tomorrow’s operational needs; and the expansion of services offered by easier access to space via new launcher and constellation concepts.”
Bruno Stoufflet is former Director of Innovation and former Chief Technology Officer at Dassault Aviation, where he was responsible for preparing future products. He supervised preliminary projects for airborne systems, technical-operational studies and the management of research and technology activities. He was one of the founders of the European Clean Sky joint venture, now Clean Aviation, and was an active member of the Conseil d’Orientation de la Recherche Aéronautique Civile.
He was an auditor at the Centre des Hautes Etudes de l’Armement.
Bruno Stoufflet is also a member of the Académie des Technologies.
In recognition of his career, he was named Chevalier de l’ordre de la Légion d’Honneur.
